Harbor-UCLA Medical Center
Harbor-UCLA Medical
Center is a Los
Angeles County
facility, located in the city of Torrance,
in the Southwestern region of the County.
Constructed in 1963, the 78 acre facility is licensed for 533 beds and
63 bassinets.
The
Medical Center primarily serves the medically
indigent residents of the Coastal Region of Los Angeles County, an area with a
population of over two million. The rich
diversity of the patient population in age, race, and ethnicity reflects that
of the surrounding communities. The care
delivered at Harbor includes a wide range of acute, ambulatory and highly
specialized care. The Medical Center
is an integral part of the student-teaching, graduate and postgraduate programs
of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Harbor-UCLA Medical
Center is an 8 story hospital
equipped for the care of medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, gynecologic
and psychiatric patients. The acute unit
contains 8 floors, 10 operating rooms, 8 intensive care units, several progressive
care units, and a large emergency department.
Major construction is under way at Harbor-UCLA with expansion of the
Operating Rooms, Emergency Department, and Intensive Care Units. The inpatient
areas consist of 4-bed and 2-bed rooms.
In addition to the acute inpatient unit, the hospital complex includes a
modern outpatient facility, extensive research laboratories, and the 22,000
square foot A.F. Parlow Library of Health Sciences. A full service Medical Imaging
Center offers the most
up-to-date radiologic services. In
addition, the medical complex includes the Walter
P. Martin
Research Building,
the St. John’s Cardiovascular
Research Center,
an NIH-sponsored Clinical Research
Center, and other
research laboratories for faculty investigators.
