Renal Ultrasound Program

Division of Nephrology & Hypertension

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center

Purpose

The Division of Nephrology & Hypertension at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center performs renal ultrasonography as part of its patient care and post-graduate training mission. Renal ultrasonography is the most important and most commonly used imaging method in the work-up of patients with renal diseases. It is an integral part in the Nephrologist's evaluation of patients with renal diseases and, hence, should be a routine part of this subspecialty's diagnostic program.

Ultrasound Training

At Harbor-UCLA Medical Center post-graduate Fellows in Nephrology have the opportunity to learn how to perform and evaluate renal sonograms. The training in ultrasonography of the kidneys and renal allografts will follow the guidelines of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN). This will allow trainees to become certified in renal ultrasonography by ASDIN after completing their Fellowship and to integrate renal ultrasonography into their practice of Nephrology.
